Healing *Experiences* beyond the counseling office
"Somewhere along the way, we forgot that healing is natural to us, innate to who we are. Not just a service to be paid for, nor a skillset to be learned, but rather like singing is to birds or making honey is to bees...it is just what we do."
You can call us BETC (pronounced like Betsy)...
BETC is a holistic, experiential, nature and adventure-based mental health counseling and education service in the Heart of the Boise Treasure Valley. Here, we are passionate about changing the way we think about therapy. We want to ensure that one's path to healing is unique, empowering, personally meaningful, culturally relevant, and socially justice-minded.
We believe mental wellness does not start nor stop in a counseling office, but can and should be interwoven into all aspects of our lives and our communities. We are here to help you along the way as you heal, grow, connect, and flourish. Whether starting your mental health journey here or elsewhere, it is a brave act! Well done, you.
Who BETC Cares For...
Those Experiencing Mental Health Struggles
Those Experiencing Grief, Loss, and Life Transitions
Those Facing Systemic Injustice
Those Seeking Growth, Connection, and Meaningful Identity
Mental diagnoses never summarize the entirety of a person. Here we treat you holistically, lessening mental "dis-ease" such as depression, anxiety, obsessions or compulsions, or difficulty understanding and managing neurodivergence.
Change is an inevitable factor in the human experience. Whether a break up, graduation, a move, a death, etc, you are not alone as you navigate new and hard things in your life.
Historically mental health care systems have benefitted from pathologizing exploited groups: BIPOC, Immigrants, LGBTQIA2S+, womxn, etc. Here our model places social justice and liberation at the center of both individual and collective healing.
Even with no formal diagnosis, or recent transition or loss, it is human nature to seek meaning. Whether you are navigating your identity, your faith, your passions, etc, we are here to help you find your way in the fog.
And How...
Nature-Based and Adventure Interventions
Experiential Parts-Work and Internal Family Systems
Somatic Experiencing and Trauma-Informed self exploration
Community - Oriented Action, Education, and Resourcing
While office-based and telehealth sessions are a significant part of process, we work best in the wild world, by developing our relationship with mindfulness, challenge, and play within the context of nature.
At BETC we explore the deeper layers of the mind through Parts Work, also known as Internal Family Systems (IFS). Through guided imagery, we invite you to engage with the different parts of yourself with curiosity and compassion.
In the therapeutic process, we recognize the profound connection between our body's experience and the healing process. By gently tuning into the body’s wisdom, one can release stored trauma and stress, allowing for greater emotional resilience and a sense of safety.
Healing and growth flourish when we connect with others, share knowledge, and contribute to our communities. We are your advocate inside and outside the counseling office. We believe that human wellness is communal and political.
